Breezy Hole-in-One Only Part of the Story
Tim Walseth of Roseville accepts his hole-in-one trophy
Tim Walseth of Roseville accepts his hole-in-one trophy from Doris Longnecker, Breezy Point Resort's golf course co-manager. The shot at Number 6 on Traditional was witnessed by playing partners Jeri Walseth and John Mason of Park Rapids.

Tim and Jeri Walseth of suburban St. Paul could be considered the Cal Ripkens of golf.

Just as the Baltimore Oriole "ironman" continues to set endurance records for consecutive games, the Walseths hit the links each summer with a comparable commitment to their game.

Jeri, the female half of the team, has posted more 18-hole rounds of golf over the past 15 years than any other woman in the state, her husband Tim says. In fact, she has finished first in rounds played every year since 1992, averaging 220 per year with a high of 250 in 1996.

Consider, for example, what the Walseths accomplished during a short vacation last week at Breezy Point Resort: 48 holes the first day, 64 the second, 70 the third, and 36 by noon on the fourth. "But we're not done yet," Jeri said. Ninety-six holes in a day is her record.

To top it off, Tim hit a hole-in-one at Number 6 on the resort's Traditional course during fourth-day action, using a seven iron on the 156-yard par three. But no big deal. It was his fifth hole-in-one so far. Jeri has one.

Tim, a seven-handicap player, and Jeri, a 14-handicapper, were at the resort on a golf package, marking the 18th year in a row that they have stayed at Breezy during the golf season. Tim is on the faculty at the University of Minnesota's Department of Pharmacology. The couple, Roseville residents, are members at Midland Hills Country Club. "Golf is better than housework," Jeri says.
